The celebrity conundrum

Show business is all for show, as it turns out. Being a celebrity is embarking, as John Cleese wrote, “in a wussy lifestyle.” Woody Allen’s common theme of “the slippery nature of celebrity and public expectation” touches the heart of the matter. In the end, celebrities can only “Hope” to get thanks for the memory, while contributing nothing to mankind. But people entertaining people are not the luckiest people in the world; they are manufacturers of an image machine that is fueled by prototype and self-rewards that are misinterpreted as contributions to mankind.
