R.I.P.P.

Soupy Sales, 83, is dead. R.I.P.P. is "rest in piece of pie" because few took a whipped cream (really shaving cream) pie to the face like this pioneer of TV slapstick.
His vaudeville shtick humor knew no age barriers and at one point his program ran in prime time, attracting guests as big as Sinatra, wanting a pie in their faces, too.
Certain personalities make a mark in pop culture that is unique. Soupy Sales is dead. Long live the Soup. Check out YouTube for clips.

Carney's art

This morning, a long-forgotton comic popped into our consciousness.

Alan Carney
Dec.11, 1911, Brooklyn, N.Y.
Chubby, rubber-faced comedian Alan Carney knocked around vaudeville for years as a comic dialectician. After making his first film, 1941's Convoy, Carney signed a contract at RKO, appearing in choice supporting roles in such films as Mr. Lucky (1943). In 1943, Carney was teamed with Wally Brown as RKO's answer to Abbott and Costello. In addition to their inexpensive starring vehicles, Brown and Carney co-starred in Step Lively (1943), a musical remake of the Marx Bros.' Room Service (1938) where Wally played Chico's part and Carney filled in for Harpo; the Groucho role was essayed by, of all people, Adolphe Menjou. Brown and Carney were also featured on a live USO tour arranged by the studio. After 1946's Genius at Work, RKO terminated the team's contracts. Carney continued in films and TV as a supporting player, working prolifically at Disney Studios in the 1960s and 1970s; one of Carney's best latter-day roles was as Mayor Dawgmeat in the 1959 film musical Li'l Abner. ~ Hal Erickson

Technology institutes

Video murdered the radio star in the ’80s and the Internet trounced all aspects of the music business by the end of the '90s. And now it is devouring the newspaper industry. So how does one create revenue in a world of free content? Voices from our host’s college --a landmark in the history of rock 'n roll music-- are alive with the sound of the online revolution.

Greek theater

A thought-provoking look at the career of the late, great film maker John Cassavettes (pictured) will serve as a solid example of how anyone should learn to play the system in order to support their own methods and madnesses.

Programme Information
- TEA Summer Showcase 2009 was produced from a live audience at The Rivoli, an intimate setting in Downtown Toronto, Ontario Canada. It features seven wonderful performers and was presented by Phillip Hong and Darell Yarek, who presided over the last concert as the videographer/photographer.
- Phillip Hong's Christmas Turkey is a compilation of bloopers and other bizarre fodder from the twelve years we have existed as SRN Mediaworks. Includes our first announcement back in 1997 (the clue: a nine-year-old asking our audience to orally uphold her... an appendage we'd rather not reveal). Phillip Hong was forced to present this muck of the muck, produced specifically for this year's Holiday Programme.

Cotolo Chronicles continues Thursday nights, 9 p.m. EST, live from SRN.
Scheduling information for Holiday Programme should be public by Thursday, Nov. 12 on this website:
http://148.ca/holiday.
Times posted are Eastern Standard Time.

Is data fact!

We should be back on line and ready to stream live on Oct. 1, opening autumn’s series of program with a look at some strange, raw data. It’s a world of polls, studies and percentages that prove nothing but a common thread of the topic at hand. Yet, these samples are taken seriously by just about everyone. So it is that we indulge in polls and facts about things that few people could possibly take seriously.
