A wheel story

The 1950 Hudson automobile pictured on the left is just one of the mid-century cars that was the engine of a car-driven society, to use too many cute analogies. But was it really built like a tank?

What do you remember about the cars in your life, who drove them and when their wheels ceased to turn?

Origins

Jim Waskowich is the man who took our host out of the dark regions of retirement from radio and brought him back "on the air" in the new theater of Internet broadcasting. Thus spake Cotolo Chronicles. The rest continues to be history. Jim talks with Frank on the Feb. 21 show about the beginnings of 'net broadcasting, its growth and its future. He will also mention boats.

On the Green Room portion, SRN coverage of the International Auto Show 2008 ensues with special reports. Go to the main autoshow site, with photo galleries at http://148.ca/autoshow ...
And http://revver.com/video/689663/autoshow-2008-the-cadillac-display/ proves covering the autoshow can be stressful and boring, so the to have fun and poke fun, like in this very very short clip.

Name that crook

Pictured on the right is Eddie "The Grandma-Kicker" Antopia, a mobster known for kicking old ladies down the stairs. Or is that Eddie "Flying Saucer Hat" ? And which one is his actual nickname?
How mobsters get their trademark nicknames is the stuff that legends are built upon. But the truth is sometimes stranger than the legend, which normally isn't the truth.

Modernizing Babe

I have calculated that if Babe Ruth had been injected with the substance that is the topic of Congressional hearings this week, The Bambino would have hit 2,358 home runs the year he set the homerun record. And the next ten years he would have averaged 2,010 a season. This means that by the time Barry Bonds was able to break the record of 2,358 home runs, he would have broken it by at least 2,000 home runs.

Our host lends a rare opinion on such matters. Click here to read it.

Thanks to Phil Hong and SRN for taking care of the Feb. 14 broadcast. We return live on Feb. 21.

V-day plans

This Thursday our host is working out of town, away from the studio, and due to that high-priced engagement, things will be different on Feb. 14.

Instead of the Green Room, there will be a special, starting at 7 p.m. Phil Hong's Red Room celebrates the day of hearts and flowers and love. Check out the web page and be ready. Phil is pictured to the right.

Cotolo Chronicles will be on at 9 p.m., featuring a repeat performance of a fine show from the past, since there is no way of playing a fine show from the future.

Everything returns to normal on Thursday, Feb. 21.

Brooklyn: a world of its own

Thursday, February 07, 2008

Talkin' time again

It's a rip-roaring drum-solo program with some contemporary topics that offer many rabbit trails. Let's look at how the Japanese are going gadget-crazy; how some people play down the freedom of expression on the Internet; how our host's hometown of Brooklyn is now a Disneyland for tourists; and just what else is swimming around our conscious and unconscious.

Fast is not so quick

As Pat Boone so religiously sang, "On a day like today, we pass the time away ... " and so it is that for many people across the world, a great fasting will take place as soon as the binge is over. Yes, it is the day before Lent and we may not all know about this season and its characters.

So click here to find out all about this season and its characters and how all of this may or may not affect you and what you do, compared to what others may do, this season.
