Truth be told

Today the authorities arrived and under the duress of extreme torture, I admitted to the GHT (God's honest truth) ... I love ABBA.

Patriot games

Patriot Pop could be the new rock genre, and The Bangers lead the Patriot Pop parade, as is a topic on the May 24 program (still available in rebroadcasts; check below for time and station).

You can reach The Bangers at their website, click here. And you can make them your friends at My Space by going to their page: click here.

And there's always Johnny Rivers, pop music's secret agent man, who is one more page in rock-and-roll's history books (pictured in concert on right). Secret Agent Man: The Ultimate Johnny Rivers Anthology: 1964-2006 is available in stores now! Or, order online at Collector's Choice .

Thanks to Walter Stewart for sharing his new and old adventures in the music industry.

Learning to learn

Jeannette Walls of MSNBC writes: With the help of John Travolta, educational techniques developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard are being used in a Louisiana public school, according to Florida’s St. Petersburg Times.

In the mayhem that followed Hurricane Katrina, celebrity Scientologists, including Travolta and Isaac Hayes, “played key roles” in persuading Prescott Middle School in Louisiana to adopt a Hubbard program called Applied Scholastics, reports the St. Petersburg Times.

Defenders of the program say that students’ scores have improved since it has been put in use — and insist that Applied Scholastics has nothing to do with Scientology, other than the man who created it.

Critics, however, disagree. Teaching the studying technique is “covert religious instruction” Dave Touretsky, a research professor at Carnegie Mellon University, told the Times, and he said that using it in schools could be unconstitutional.

Cotolo Chronicles tried to reach Travolta, Hayes, Tourestsky and, just for the hell of it, Julie Christie (who is aging so well that we would love to tell her; pictured) but none have responded. If you have an opinion about this, please write to us.

Back in Seattle again

By popular demand, today's w-log (web log, or blog) directs readers to information concerning the Seattle Mariners baseball team. Unlike other baseball teams, this great organization is named after sailors. Not bad sailors, like the "Pirates," but great seamen. Not semen, like the life-empowered liquid, but men who brave the weather and the waves (not Waves as in women sailors).

By clicking here you can learn more about the American League's terrific team that comes from a great city; the city where Starbucks was born; the city near a volcano; the city of Boeing; the city with a giant needle-shaped restaurant. A city in a state named after our wooden-toothed President and father of our country (see one-dollar bill picture).

All hail the Seattle Mariners!

Emily's closet

Is she lost? Is she lonely? Is she sure that night is the dark time of the day?

The Life and Loves of Emily Groom continues with another heart-whipping episode. This is not just a "chick-flick" kind of read, this is a must for men, especially those trying to undress --I mean understand-- women.

So far, one critic has said of the Emily Groom stories: "A masterful attempt at gripping the feminine soul and twisting it into a pretzel-like object that is nurtured only by the fantasy that men are worth anything."

Another critic wrote: "A gripping attempt at mastering the feminine soul and nurturing it like a twisted pretzel shaped by a meaningless man."

So enjoy this brief but harrowing episode.

Racey talk

It's coming: the most exciting two minutes in sports. Twenty large, muscular equine males, all aged three, gallop for 1 1/4 miles in the annual classic Americana thoroughbred contest called The Kentucky Derby. On the May 3 show we are joined by Dusty Nathan, racing journalist, historian and fan. It's our yearly salute to the first Saturday in May, when thoroughbreds are thoroughly tested as they battle to be a part of history.
