Trotting into the past

Aug. 5 is the day of the Hambletonian Final, a $1-million harness race that draws the attention of the world (since trotting harness racing is very popular and a lucrative business overseas).

This year, a horse named Mr Pine Chip should win the race. But let's go back to 1968 with the video below and watch a classic short film about the Hambletonian of that year. In its faded-color glory, with its cornball music soundtrack and script and featuring a great racecaller, my friend, Stanley Bergstein, study the feel and atmosphere of another era, as well as the performances by a great horse.
