May 6, 2000 – Plans to build a bridge from Freehold, New Jersey, to the moon, are cancelled due to the proposed cost of the project.
April 30, 1993 – More coffee sold in kiosks than ever before in Montreal coffee shoppes; spelling of "shoppes" and naked salespeople contribute as the reasons.
May 1, 1988 – No one in Pennsylvania wears a hat.
May 2, 1988 – Jack Des Colare and Elaine Finish are gunned down in Oregon. Police blame the duo for a multitude of crimes, including the disfiguring of a public bench while senors sat upon it.
May 3, 1996 – Riyadh is declared the capital city of Kansas.
May 4, 1948 – Five grown men become the focus of the nation when they are trapped in a well on a farm in Wisconsin.
May 5, 1849 – People in Spanish-speaking countries begin to call this date "cinco de Mayo."

Long live the 'King'

At approximately 9:15 on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 16, 1977, a Memphis restaurant owner died from an apparent heart attack. His body wasn't discovered until shortly after 1:30 p.m. that afternoon. The following day, more than 50,000 mourners showed up for his viewing ... there was, indeed, heartbreak at the hotel Graceland and the rumors were born shortly after the death of Elvis Presley was announced.

On the April 26 program, Bruce Kearns talks about his novel, Resurrection of the King; The most compelling Elvis is Alive story ever told. You can read a review of the book here and get one person's view of this inventive volume of fiction.

Yesterday, today and tomorrow

It's almost over, the massive on-line project called The Complete and Unabridged History of Japan. The remaining pages will be posted in the next week or so. If you missed catching up with archive posts, dumb luck now, as the archives were not transferred when Blogger with Google. You will have to wait for the hard-cover edition or the film.

Reminding you again that WildBunchRadio announced that the rebroadcast of Cotolo Chronicles moves to Wednesdays at 7 p.m. EST. This makes the show a California drive-time competitor.

And, again, Rizwords is a podcast presented by Art from our affliate Rant Radio. The show can be heard live at 2:30 p.m. EST the TalkShoe network . You can listen to the podcast live as it is recorded (hosts take live calls). The show can also be found by clicking here: Rizwords.

On the April 26 program, it's all about Elvis, with special-guest Bruce Kearns, author of one possible scenario about Elvis Presley being alive. And remember the Green Room, an hour before the show, at SRN One, with a chat room at Audio Coffee.

The Monday muse

The Monday muse for April 23 is a wonderous visit to wonderland, sans Alice or Stevie (pictured). So put your own gears into motion by reading this, here, click here, go there by here ...
Is it any wonder you want to make today wonderful? As Stevie Wonder once wrote, Mary wants to be a super woman, which makes us all wonder, but makes none of us Stevies.

Monday muse

The photo on the right is that of Ivan Pirovich, last seen on July 19, 1996 at 7:30 p.m., while working at his industrial sheds at Hillcrest, near Browns Plains, according to the Australian Federal Police.

Ivan failed to return home and has failed to make contact with friends and family, which is out of character for him. All Police enquiries to date have failed to locate Ivan Pirovich and the main question remains: is he really Crackpot Hooligan?

Crossing the Flynnish line

Thanks to Rory Flynn for the great program on April 12. If you missed it, check below to find about about rebroadcasts or you can download it from the left-hand column, as well as get the RSS feed. Also check Podomatic and/or stream from MySpace.

There were some glitches during the broadcast, due to uncharacteristic wind conditions in Los Angeles, which interupted some of the phone lines. Still, the show went on, as shows must go on and you should enjoy it.

Also, check out Rory's son, Sean Flynn, a TV star.

And look at me in the photo, imitating Errol with Betty Davis from Elizabeth the Queen. That's me with the glasses on. (Fauxto by Larry Michelich).

In like Flynn

On the April 12 program, Rory Flynn talks about her father, actor Errol Flynn (pictured), and her new book about him --The Baron of Mulholland. Rory sets the record straight about her father, someone she knew as a family man. Beyond the sensationalism and scandal, Rory says "what I wanted to say, how I wanted to say it." An informative and fun conversation, free of interuption, for anyone listening.

Monday muse

Peals of wisdom are just what the neck of your soul needs as a work week begins and weekend digestion sets into motion. It is a constant request that I post my timely messages of mindful sage-like quality but I often refuse to do so, sighting the strain it takes to type with one finger. Still, now, without the proper sleep and before the hour of restitution, I give you a link:

A link

And there you should go for this Monday's Monday muse.

By the way, the photo of me on the right was taken before my first cup of coffee and before I purchased a new set of frames for my corrective lens. The photo was taken in black and white because at the time I had recovered from my jaundiced condition and did not want to make a politically incorrect visual statement by looking like I was imitating an Oriental, which, in case you did not know, is illegal in five U.S. states and most of Canada.

You're outta here, pardner

The death penalty is the ultimate price. Some call it capital punishment, because it is fatal. The state of Texas may just be the capital-punishment capital of the U.S. and the volumes titled Texas Death Row attest to this. On the April 5 program, guest Bill Crawford, who is the editor of the latest edition of Texas Death Row, will talk about the book and the long, glorious history of executions in Texas. Grow ode with me

The season has changed and the birds are singing all over that part of Earth where spring has sprung (if you are reading this in the southern hemisphere I truly apologize for not recognizing your atmosphere; please read on, because the spirit of what I address here is for everyone experiencing any season).

Love, they say, is in the air come spring. That in itself is enough to make people sing, even if they cannot carry a tune. That may be annoying to those listening, but to the singer the song is sweet and the inspiration defies every musical key signature. So today, I share with you my ode to spring. Click here. Or here. Or here; they all go to the same page.

Keep in mind that the April 5 program, this Thursday, features Bill Crawford, author and culture wizard, to talk about a new book that I personally recommend.

More than you will ever know, my heart longs to love you so ... oh, wait, my mind automatically went to the lyrics for the song More, written for the movie Mondo Cane, which in English means "world of dogs."

What I meant to write is that you will learn more than you may ever want to know about the man whose name adorns the title of the program if you go to The Mic magazine (click here--no, wait, I mean click here, not there). The Mic magazine supports saving trees and so it publishes on line.
