Opinion: The world today
It was a sweltering afternoon in Sarajevo that fateful day when Gavrilo Princip put lethal bullets into the bodies of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. He was a Serb nationalist, angry that his government could not find more letters to complete his name, so he reacted violently. But the murders set in motion events that brought Europe to war.
